Student Union – East Mississippi Community College

EMCC’S Golden Triangle campus was established in 1968 and currently serves about 4,000 commuter students. Construction of this new, two-story, Student Union on the Golden Triangle Campus began in 2010. The facility includes a large dining area, bookstore, classrooms, a lecture hall and computer lab, study spaces, offices, gallery space, and a fitness center.

The Student Union building is served by a central ground coupled water source heat pump system in place of traditional chiller/boiler combinations and employs extensive use of energy recovery ventilation. The facility utilizes the buildings heating water systems to provide heating for the domestic hot water system serving the restroom areas. The north-facing front of the facility includes a large curtainwall system design to maximize the natural lighting in the main open dining area. CxGBS® provided whole building commissioning including building enclosure, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

Added value through CxGBS® services:

  • CxGBS conducted a pre-construction building enclosure meeting to address coordination between subcontractors with the multiple systems to be installed.
  • Recommended utilizing unfaced or paper-faced batt insulation in lieu of PSK-faced to eliminate the potential for condensation to incur in exterior walls on interior side of vapor barrier.
