C3 Academic Building – Georgia Gwinnett College

Our second project that CxGBS commissioned for Georgia Gwinnett College was the C3 academic building. This new three-story, $10.7 million facility housing classrooms, offices, and support functions. Surrounded by a combination of light gauge steel frame, masonry-clad cavity wall, and curtain wall systems, the building mechanical systems included an air-cooled chiller, VAV rooftop units, and VAV fan-powered parallel terminal units.

CxGBS provided Holistic Commissioning services during the design, construction, and warranty phases for the building enclosure, HVAC, HVAC controls, plumbing, electrical, and lighting systems. In addition, CxGBS is providing monitoring-based commissioning to quickly pinpoint any system or component performance degradation.

Added value through CxGBS® services:

  • CxGBS’s building enclosure design reviews focused upon constructability of the enclosure and continuity of the air, moisture, and thermal barrier surrounding the structure, including guidance to limit thermal bridging within the enclosure.
  • Site observations and testing of the building enclosure during installation helped to ensure that components were installed properly and functioned according to the owner’s project requirements.
  • Damage to the air, moisture, and thermal barrier that occurred after installation was identified by CxGBS and repaired by the installers prior to covering the assemblies with cladding or other finishes.
