Mississippi Central Crime Lab

This new $31M Central Crime Lab facility houses laboratory spaces to support criminalistics and analytical research as well as the Medical Examiner’s office and Forensic labs. The facility provides contiguous work/lab areas to promote analyst interaction while maintaining secure work areas for each section to maintain evidence chain of custody protection.

CxGBS provided Holistic Commissioning through the pre-design through warranty phases, including building enclosure, HVAC, HVAC controls, plumbing, electrical, and lighting control systems. The facility required extensive pressure mapping to ensure IEQ requirements with strict humidity and temperature control requirements in laboratory spaces.

Added value through CxGBS® services:

  • Identified a number of issues related to improperly located or missing control devices and mold formation on interior finishes that were installed prior to drying in the building properly
  • Identified several instances in which fire dampers were not installed in ductwork, penetrating fire-rated partitions
  • Identified a systematic problem in the interaction between column and curtain wall assemblies, allowing water intrusion into the assembly and assisted in identifying an appropriate resolution
