Alabama 4-H Environmental Education Facility
Established in 1994, the Alabama 4-H Science School prides itself in providing quality experiential, environmental education through adventure, outdoor, and science classes. Serving over 3,000 students yearly, the facility prides itself on serving a wide variety of students, whether K through 12 school groups, college students, or private groups.
CxGBS helped this dynamic, multi-functional building to provide a place where people of all ages can learn to be custodians and protectors of the environment. It is designed and constructed to minimize maintenance requirements, exceed typical energy and water efficiency standards, and provide exceptional indoor environmental quality. Holistic Commissioning by CxGBS included the building enclosure, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems from pre-design development of the Owners Project Requirements through warranty.
Added value through CxGBS® Services:
- Connected classroom directly to the outdoors that includes drains in the floor so that the whole room can be easily washed down
- Installed rainwater collection systems to reduce potable water use
- Specified life-cycle efficiency materials to minimize maintenance and operating costs
- The final design yielded a 30 percent greater efficiency than code.
