Don’t Get Too Comfortable With What You Think You Know About Commissioning

You heard it here FIRST! The commissioning process is well established. However, the ASHRAE Standards Special Project Committee (SSPC 300) for Commissioning, whose members represent the industry, code officials, and owners/users, organizes, coordinates, and expands content as necessary for consistency throughout all commissioning documents. SSPC 300 has developed two Standards: one for new buildings and one for existing buildings. These Standards, written in building code language, present the minimum requirements for commissioning. The Standards are supplemented by Guidelines that provide best practices in the application of the commissioning process for new and existing buildings and expand on technical applications specific to owner training, development, and use of systems manuals, HVAC&R, and data centers. In addition, the Standards and Guidelines share a standard set of informative annexes which provide examples for commissioning activities and deliverables related to their use.

SSPC 300 coordinates with organizations representing lighting, electrical, building enclosure, plumbing, fire protection, etc., to coordinate across building industries and commissioning documents to support consistency and delivery of the commissioning process.

The sub-committees of SSPC 300 are also developing new Guidelines for Data Centers and On-going Commissioning. ASHRAE Commissioning Standards and Guidelines will be continuously maintained to improve and inform of the latest application.

Stay tuned!
