Athens-Clarke County Fire Station #2

The new ACC Fire Station #2 is part of a fourteen-acre master site development. The facility is 19,000 SF with a three-stall apparatus bay, consisting of a mixed wood-framed and structural steel construction with masonry veneer.

As a LEED® accredited project, this project features energy efficient variable refrigerant flow HVAC and solar photovoltaic systems to maintain energy and maintenance cost. This facility is built to serve a staff of fifteen full-time firefighters and will last the Athens-Clarke County community long into the future.

CxGBS® provided Holistic Commissioning® of the building enclosure, HVAC controls, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems during the design and construction phases.

Added Value through CxGBS® Services:

  • Identified numerous issues with continuity of air/water and thermal barrier systems associated with the building enclosure, HVAC, and plumbing systems that reduced the risk of water intrusion and improved energy efficiency.
  • Identified rainwater collection systems issues that affected use of rainwater for irrigation and toilet flushing, improving the maintainability of system and water efficiency.
  • Identified issues with vehicle exhaust systems, carbon monoxide and nitroxide detection system to get them resolved for the safety of the building occupants.
  • Identified and assisted with resolution of lighting control issues resulting in system meeting design intent and owner’s criteria.
