Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Austin

The three-story, 97,474 square foot Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Austin, Texas, is the first newly constructed hospital in Travis County. The project included the hospital as well as a 41,000 square foot medical office building and a 110,000 square foot parking garage. This facility was one of four Baylor Scott & White Health hospital projects in the greater Austin area that CxGBS commissioned within two years.

An innovative aspect of the Central Texas Health Hub Sites is the integration of a multi-specialty medical clinic in the hospital itself to support both inpatient and outpatient services. The facility includes multiple operating rooms, patient care areas, pharmaceutical areas, meeting rooms, offices, and support areas, such as restrooms and electrical rooms.

CxGBS® provided Holistic Commissioning® during the construction phase, including the HVAC, HVAC controls, lighting controls, service water heating, emergency power distribution, and elevator and HVAC interaction with the fire alarm system.

Added value through CxGBS services:

  • When testing unit smoke duct detector control, observed triggering smoke duct detector on second floor closed fire/smoke dampers for unit serving first floor. Worked with contractor to correct issue.
  • Observed hot water unit heater in exterior fire riser room had no installed temperature control, which could lead to unit not keeping space temperature above freezing. Worked with contractor to have space temperature control installed.
