Brown Middle School

The core of the Brown Middle School project involved select improvements to the historic, four-story building, including reconfigured classroom spaces in some areas to create larger, more open learning settings. The administrative suite and the school’s main entrance were upgraded to improve ambiance, function, and security. The project also gutted the building’s gymnasium basement, transforming it into an attractive dance room and STEM lab spaces filled with natural light.

The 34,500-square-foot new building hosts a media commons that promotes integrative learning. The new building also provides a cafeteria, kitchen, modern fine arts spaces, and counseling suites.

CxGBS® provided Holistic Commissioning® of the HVAC controls and mechanical and electrical systems during the construction phase of the project.

  • Ensured demand ventilation and outside air volumes performed in accordance with APS criteria.
  • Identified OEM equipment deficiencies which contribute to early deterioration of gas-fired heat exchangers and warped return air dampers impeding correct equipment operation.
  • Identified and verified correction fault humidity, carbon dioxide, and temperature sensors.
  • Identified existing equipment issues originating from the central plant boiler needing repair to significantly reduce water and energy consumption.
