G. Wayne Clough Commons – GA Institute of Technology
This 220,000 SF new construction project was for the ground-breaking interdisciplinary learning center at the heart of Georgia Tech’s campus featuring numerous of notable sustainable design elements. Anchored by the campus’s newly created “Tech Green,” the project features a roof garden that has become one of the school’s most popular destinations. Other innovative sustainable building strategies included the careful design of the facility to achieve a balance of solar heat gain, campus views, and daylight harvesting. The facility houses science labs, classrooms, auditoriums, a café, and other academic support spaces.
“CxGBS provided LEED consulting services on the Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons project. Their guidance and input regarding sustainable design was invaluable in helping us make informed sustainable design decisions that eventually led us to achieve a LEED Platinum rating. Now that the building has been occupied, we have realized many of the benefits of the sustainable design efforts discussed during the design process. CxGBS’s involvement in that process certainly contributed to the overall success of the project.” —John DuConge, Senior Project Manager, Facilities Design and Construction, Capital Planning
