Holy Cross Renovation – St. Edward’s University

The renovation of the Holy Cross Hall on the campus of St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, consisted of a complete interior renovation of the 100+ year-old facility. With this renovation, the university desired to update the facility to a modern office and learning area to serve the staff and students of St. Edward’s.

CxGBS provided construction phase commissioning services for the HVAC, domestic hot water, and lighting control systems.  The four-story building is conditioned by multiple fan coil units with outside air provided by a central dedicated outdoor air unit located in the attic. The facility utilizes high performance motion sensed faucets and flush valves to reduce water usage.  The building also utilizes high performance lighting and lighting controls to reduce energy consumption.

“CxGBS provided excellent commissioning services for the renovation of the Holy Cross Hall, a 100+ year old building in Austin. We’re thankful that CxGBS identified issues in order to improve the comfort of the occupants and make the facility easier to maintain.” —Timothy Toney, St. Edwards’ University

Added value through CxGBS® services:

  • From review of TAB report, CxGBS observed issues with the amount of air provided to some of the spaces. CxGBS worked with the project team to remediate the issues to help better the thermal comfort of occupants.
  • CxGBS observed accessibility issues with the ceiling materials and the fan coil units which would make the unit difficult to maintain.
