Homewood Middle School

Homewood Middle School is part of an independent school district in Homewood, Alabama, a suburb community of the Greater Birmingham Metropolitan Area, and serves approximately 900 students in grades six through eight with seventy certified faculty members and numerous additional support staff. This school is a model of sustainability, fostering learning at multiple levels and promoting environmental awareness among students, faculty, and the community.

Built on a blighted site, the new school features many of the best examples of environmental and engineering practices. A digital “learning wall” strategically stationed at the main entrance brings awareness of sustainable development principles to students and visitors.

CxGBS provided LEED Specific Engineering and LEED Project Administration Energy Modeling. The school was the first LEED certified building in Alabama and first LEED middle school in the United States, earning a Silver rating.
