John C. Godbold Building – United States Court of Appeals

The John C. Godbold Federal Building provides administrative office space for the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. The building was created as an annex to the Tuttle Courthouse through the restoration and joining of two existing historic buildings in downtown Atlanta. The facility includes open office areas, private offices, workrooms, storage areas, and conference rooms. Retrofitting and combining these two buildings into a modern, efficient office space presented unique challenges.

CxGBS® was tasked with reviewing bridging documents to ensure that they met the owner’s requirements and reporting findings to Bridging Design Build Contractor. CxGBS® identified spaces in the building that were over-cooling and re-heating conditioned air. At the time, the building was not fully occupied, but the HVAC systems were configured to provide sufficient cooling for full occupancy. The improvements provided substantial building energy use reduction. This project was the winner of the GSA Office of Design and Construction 2012 Project Management Awards for “Excellence in Project Management.”

“The CxGBS® staff exhibited a very high level of professionalism and technical competency throughout the duration of the project. They met or exceeded all contractual and scheduling requirements. I was highly satisfied with the CxGBS® staff and the building commissioning services they provided. I highly recommend CxGBS. —William “Buddy” Hill, GSA Southeast Sunbelt Region 4 Director
