Price Gilbert – Crosland Tower – GA Institute of Technology

The $63.8 million Price-Gilbert – Crosland Tower Renewal project included the design and renovation of two existing, interconnected library buildings, totaling approximately 230,000 SF. Included in this “library of the future” are a quiet study area, collaboration spaces, document preservation areas, preservation vaults, conference rooms, teaching areas, computing spaces, offices, support space, and a commons.

As part of the two-part project, major upgrades were made to extend the life of the building fifty plus years. The ground-level connection between the two building was enlarged and an elevated connector bridge between the two buildings was demolished and rebuilt. The exterior enclosure of the Crosland Tower was substantially modified to repair below grade waterproofing and to create large openings in the above-grade walls to bring in natural light and access to city views. The HVAC systems were completely removed and replaced with dedicated outside air/energy recovery units, AHUs, chilled beams, archival vault, underfloor air distribution, atrium smoke exhaust, etc. All electrical is being upgraded.

Added value through CxGBS® services:

  • CxGBS’s design reviews identified design-related issues, such as site drainage; energy and water efficiency; continuity of air, water, and thermal barriers; HVAC system sizing, control, and optimization; infrastructure to support future solar arrays; and sustainability in accordance with the owner’s project requirements.
  • CxGBS helped to maintain the required maintenance access clearance around the building systems and equipment.
  • CxGBS assessed existing building enclosure materials and assemblies and assisted in identifying the extent of the repairs and replacements necessary for the building renovation, saving over $2 million to the project budget.
