Renovations to Old Chem’ – University of Mississippi

Originally built in 1923, the historic Old Chemistry Building at the University of Mississippi has been the home of a number of academic, research, and administrative functions. Renamed Brevard Hall in 2011, it is now the home to a number of physical science and engineering departments.

CxGBS provided pre-design through construction and warranty phase commissioning. During construction, CxGBS conducted several site visits to observe construction and direct/witness testing of the commissioned systems: building envelope, mechanical, and electrical.

Added value through CxGBS® services:

  • Architectural design reviews recommended improvements in details regarding sealants and flashings on exterior windows and door in order to reduce the possibility of moisture intrusion into the building and enclosure.
  • Architectural design reviews recommended that copper flashing be specified for exposed conditions and galvanized flashings be specified for concealed conditions.
  • Mechanical design reviews recommended improvements in design and design drawings to equipment layout, efficient ducting, and improved access for equipment for preventative maintenance activities.
  • Electrical design reviews recommended design modifications for improved coordination between systems, capacity for future systems, and maintainability.
  • Recommendations during construction for correct installation of sub-grade waterproofing, piping, and ductwork insulation, grading/drainage, and enclosure improvements.
