Shaw Tile Manufacturing Facility
CxGBS’s third project for Shaw Industries, T1 is the newest production facility to be used by Shaw Industries. The facility contains approximately 15,000 SF of office space and 660,000 SF of manufacturing and warehouse space. Surrounded by a combination of insulated pre-cast wall panels (warehouse) and light-gauge, steel-frame, masonry-clad cavity walls and storefront systems (office area), the building mechanical systems included the following: packaged VAV rooftop units and fan-powered terminal units within office spaces, gas-fired make-up air units and blow-through heaters in manufacturing spaces, and constant-volume packaged rooftop units in manufacturing conditioned spaces.
The electrical and lighting systems commissioned included emergency power generators, switchboards and distribution panel boards, occupancy sensors, lighting controls, and interior and exterior lighting. In addition to serving as the LEED project administrator and commissioning professional for the project, CxGBS provided energy modeling services to meet LEED prerequisites and credits EAp2 and EAc1. The project achieved LEED Silver certification.
Added Value through CxGBS® Services:
- Building enclosure design reviews focused on maintaining the integrity of the air, moisture, and thermal barriers surrounding the structure, including guidance to limit thermal bridging across structural steel within the enclosure.
- Site observations and testing of the building enclosure identified moisture intrusion due to masonry anchor penetrations, plumbing penetrations, and incomplete seals at intersections of materials such as cast stone wall caps and the moisture barrier.
