Van Leer Student Commons – GA Institute of Technology
The Van Leer Interdisciplinary Design Commons is a renovation of an existing two-story circular rotunda. The IDC provides trans-disciplinary and interdisciplinary education, collaboration, research, and maker-space to foster design, creativity, innovation, and invention for students from all disciplines at Georgia Tech. CxGBS® provided Holistic Commissioning® of the building enclosure, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting controls, communications, and security systems for the project.
Added value through CxGBS® services:
During the investigation phase of the project, many issues were identified that were fatal failures:
- Underfloor plenum had numerous leaks and CxGBS assisted in identifying and testing the plenum
- All windows were not properly installed leading to multiple instances of water intrusion
- Sufficient cooling was not occurring due to minimal chilled water supply requiring reconfiguration of the building’s chilled water loop
